2019 Middle School Band Clinic

The Middle School All-County Band Clinic is a two-day intensive music experience for county band students selected through rigorous auditions for Concert Band and Symphonic Band.  The clinic culminated in a full concert on Saturday, February 9  at Gray’s Creek High School auditorium.  Guest clinicians are engaged to work with these talented students in an intensive clinic setting.

 

Chris Ferguson is the band director at the Braxton Craven School in Trinity, NC. During his 20 years in music education, he has been named both “Teacher of the Year” and “Distinguished Educator of the Year” by his colleagues. He often appears as a guest clinician and has conducted bands at the UNC-Greensboro Summer Music Camp for many years. Mr. Ferguson is a graduate of Appalachian State University (B.M.) and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (M.M.) where he studied with Jim Miller of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.  Mr. Ferguson draws on his experiences as an educator and performer to write music that is both fun and accessible to young musicians. His compositions and arrangements are enjoyed by ensembles throughout the country. His music is published by Carl Fischer and Excelcia Music Publishing.

 

David Stroud, a native of Kinston, NC, received his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1998 from East Carolina University.  Currently, Mr. Stroud is the director of bands at Newport Middle School and has been there since the school opened in 2001.  At Newport Middle, he has had the honor of being selected as the 2003-2004 Newport Middle School Teacher of the Year, and runner up in Carteret County.  Mr. Stroud is a National Board Certified Teacher and in 2013, Mr. Stroud was honored to receive the North Carolina Bandmasters Association “Award of Excellence”.  Under his direction, his concert bands, have received consistent and consecutive superior ratings with his separate seventh and eighth-grade bands at the North Carolina Music Performance Adjudication. In addition, the Newport Middle School Band was honored to be one of the performing ensembles at the North Carolina Music Educators Association Convention in Winston Salem in November of 2010. Mr. Stroud is an active guest clinician and adjudicator in North Carolina and Virginia and has the privilege of being a conductor at the East Carolina University Summer Band Camp in Greenville, NC.
